As of 3rd August, Agriculture Victoria have confirmed that seven cases of H5 bird flu have been confirmed in south-west Victoria, and further spread in wild birds is expected.

There remain no H5 bird flu detections in poultry or other livestock in Australia. The risk to human health of H5 bird flu remains low.

Community reports play an important role in helping detect and monitor the situation. Each report DEECA receives is reviewed and assessed using information such as the species, number of birds affected, location and disease risk. If you see sick or dead birds or wildlife, avoid contact, record the exact location and report it online or call 1800 675 888.

As a reminder, properly cooked chicken meat and eggs are completely safe to eat. Nationally agreed biosecurity measures are active to protect wildlife and agricultural industries.
